About the Nonprofit Security Grant Program
Nonprofit Security Grants are for the physical security of nonprofit and religious nonprofit institutions. Funds from this program can be used to purchase security hardware and equipment to enhance the security of the buildings and grounds of such organizations.
Governor's Proposed Budget: Nonprofit Security Grants: $1,000,000 of the general fund—state appropriation for fiscal years 2024 and 2025 are provided for grants to nonprofit organizations, including religious nonprofits, "by and for" organizations, or cultural community centers, to fund the physical security or repair of such institutions. These grants are aimed at organizations that have been subject to or are at risk of physical attacks, threats, vandalism, or damages based on their mission, ideology, or beliefs, and need investments in physical security enhancements, construction, renovation, target hardening, preparedness planning, training, or exercises.
The Critical Need of the Program
-
There is a $7 million of unmet need in Washington from the Federal Non-Profit Security Grant Program. The supplemental state program is essential to providing security to vulnerable institutions.
-
Religious and non-profit institutions have been targeted by hate all across the state.
-
The state-level program provides an easier, more streamlined process that is accessible for smaller organizations.
